Day 9 of Advent of Code 2023 felt like a Christmas gift. I thought it was going to be more difficult, but just taking it slow, trying the simple math before going too complex in ideas, and leaving the logic fairly open for editing later wrapped this one up pretty fast. Even the second part… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 9 – Mirage Maintenance

This one threw me for a while. Day 8 of Advent of Code seemed like it was going to be hard at first, or at least memory intensive. I saw paths, and AAA through ZZZ and thought “oh no, it’s Breadth-First Search time”, which I honestly haven’t figured out yet. There are a good amount… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 8 – Haunted Wasteland

I need to start this off with an apology to my good friend Nate. He introduced me to Advent of Code last year and we have since spent a good chunk of our December nights and mornings talking over these problems, either giving a little hint if one is stuck, or working together to simplify… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 7 – Camel Cards

Oh thank goodness. Day 6 of Advent of Code came back to the simpler side of things. I was able to finish it by 12:30 and figured I would get to bed a bit earlier and get a good nights sleep…but then Minecraft Dungeons might have pushed that to 1AM thanks to TrueAchievement’s Twelve Days… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 6 – Wait For It

It finally happened. Before I even started the night, I had a feeling it would. Yesterday was just too simple, so I was preparing for the worst tonight. Right off the bat, the length of the prompt itself, to quote Annie Parker, gave me a fright. Compared to the last four this one seemed like… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 5 – If You Give A Seed A Fertilizer

Day 4 has been my favorite so far for Advent of Code 2023. It might even rank in the top 5 of all I’ve done so far (2022, and a couple 2015’s). It has just enough complexity to make you think, but not enough to keep you up until 2 AM trying to complete it.… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 4 – Scratchcards

Oh Day 3. This was the first Advent of Code prompt that had me stumped for quite a bit…and it was entirely my own fault. Part One – Finding the sum of all part numbers Sample Data: What we’re looking for: The sum of all “part numbers” (1-3 digit sets of numbers) that are adjacently… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 3 – Gear Ratios

On to Day Two of Advent of Code 2023. Today’s was one of those problems that I’m torn on if I like it or not. Part one had a decent challenge to it, nothing overly complex, but writing it out felt like a bunch of iteration. It was primarily foreach after foreach, so it wasn’t… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 2 – Cube Conundrum

Welcome to Day One of Advent of Code 2023! Over these next 31 days, I’m hoping to give a brief synopsis of how I figured out each day’s prompt, or at least tried to… These write ups will be answer free, but not solution free. They are more to document the thought process and see… Continue reading Advent of Code 2023: Day 1 – Trebuchet?!
